Fun at the GAGDC Community Health Fair!

On June 7th, the Luster Learning Institute team attended the Greater Auburn-Gresham Community Development (GAGDC) Health Fair at the corner of 79th and South Racine in Chicago. There were many different tables at the fair sharing information on heart disease, asthma, obesity and nutrition, blood pressure and many more health/wellness-related topics. Jai and Joy Luster, and Jori Griffith got to share Calm Classroom techniques and other information about the program and stress reduction with community members as they walked by. They also got to visit and play different bells and other calming sounds for students from Perspectives Calumet Middle Academy and Westcott Elementary school! Perspectives Calumet Middle Academy was trained in Calm Classroom in the spring of 2010. The students who began the program in 2010 who were in 6th grade then, are now graduating 8th grade! These students received Calm Classroom for the majority of their middle school experience and were so enthusiastic about seeing us at the fair and sharing with us how Calm Classroom has helped them in school over the last few years. Congratulations to the Perspectives graduates! We are so happy for each of them! We recently trained Westcott Elementary in April this year, and so far the program is off to a wonderful start. We are looking forward to visiting both schools again in the fall!

Thank you to everyone at the GAGDC for inviting us to participate in this wonderful, educational event. We feel so happy to have had the opportunity to share our work with community members!
