What We Do
At Calm Classroom, we believe that when students and teachers take short breaks throughout the day to relax and re-energize their bodies and minds, the classroom community can thrive. Research shows that the more we practice wellness techniques in a safe and structured environment, the stronger our brain’s wiring becomes for states of caring, equanimity and calm. We can then access these mental and physical states when we need them most.
Stressed-out students create stressed-out teachers, and vice versa. Our scripted techniques allow students and teachers to learn mindfulness-based skills together as a class, for just 3 minutes, 3 times per day.
Calm Classroom is a simple and accessible way to integrate mindfulness into the classroom culture. The daily practice of breathing, stretching, focusing and relaxation exercises cultivates a greater sense of calm, focus and self-awareness within educational spaces.
Luster Learning Institute (LLI) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2007 by husband and wife team Jai and Joy Luster. The Calm Classroom program was born out of Jai and Joy's longtime love of mindfulness, and their passion for sharing the practice with children and adults. Calm Classroom was launched in 2008 in the Chicago Public Schools, and as of 2018 the program has been implemented in thousands of classrooms all over the world.
