Reduce Stress & Increase Well-Being

Mindfulness is a foundational skill that can help students and teachers reduce stress and anxiety, increase mental and emotional well-being, and engage more fully in the learning environment.

Mindfulness is our ability to pay attention to our present moment thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and surrounding environment with a kind and open attitude.

When practiced regularly, mindfulness can help us learn to…
• Observe our thoughts and feelings without judgment
• Focus our attention on the present moment
• Calm and regulate the nervous system
• Build emotional resilience and coping skills
• Cultivate compassion for ourselves and others

Mindfulness in the Classroom

When students and teachers are chronically stressed, the body’s fight-or-flight response can inhibit their ability to think clearly, stay focused, problem-solve and regulate emotions.  

By making mindfulness practice part of the daily classroom routine, students and teachers can learn to relax and re-energize their bodies and minds together as a class so that learning can flourish.
